Deciding On A New Roof

When making a Hip Roof Construction type you must make certain that you use common roof trusses. This type of construction has all sides sloped downwards to the walls with a slight sloping motion. This roof has no gables and will look like a pyramid when you see one. There are a few different hip roof styles that you may or may not be familiar with including one that is on a rectangular house. A rectangular type house hip roof will feature two triangular sides and two trapezoid sides. The sides on this type of roof are the same pitch or slope.

A hip roof has more of a degree of difficultly when it comes to the construction. You will find that although the roof is more difficult to construct the walls are much easier to build since they will all be the same height. The ridge vent is located in the center, which is basically like a regular truss roof.

A house that you will usually see a hip roof construction on is a bungalow or a cottage although there are other models of homes that you may see have this roof type design. A huge factor in using a hip roof on these types of homes is due to the added diagonal support that it gives to the roof itself.

Typically a hip roof construction can be seen more in a hurricane or tornado area since it tends to hold up to high winds better than a traditional gable style roofing system. In the past ten years there have been additions to the building codes in some of the hurricane and tornado areas that include a hip roof. The contractor is required to check with the manufacturers to ensure the industrial material will hold up to the high winds that may come to the area at a moments notice. A local contractor in your area should be familiar with the building codes and no how to find any new additions that have been made to regulations and codes.

This type of hip roof construction can vary in price but can still be just as cheap as doing a traditional style roof.
