Should You Use EPDM Roofing?

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer also known as Epdm Roofing is one of the least expensive roofing to install. This type of roofing has been around since the 1960's and are pretty easy to work with without all the odors and fumes you get from other roofing. EPDM is a flexible rubber material and have a lifespan of 12-25 years, depending on weather conditions and the sloping of the roof. This can also be used on terraces, decks and RV roofs. Do you have a leaky roof? Most homeowners face this at some time, you can fix the leak using the Epdm Roofing without the help of a professional saving you a lot of money. Most construction and contractors keep this in stock as it is inexpensive and so easy to work with.

Installing Epdm Roofing are great for roofs that are flat or have very low slopes. If the roof is flat then water may stand on it with nowhere to go and this rubber roofing will prevent leaks from happening. If you decide to do this yourself, before doing anything clean your roof off from any debris such as sticks, rocks and loose shingles. Starting at one side of the roof you will want to roll out the rubber roofing material and let it stand for about 30-45 minutes. Fold the lower part of the strip onto the upper section and run a broom across the exposed rubber. Apply the adhesive to the rubber roof material and the roof. Fold the membrane back over the section and roll it flat until roof is done. This kind of roofing has become very popular for decks, just simply put it on the same as you would a roof, don't worry about the cracks and crevices in the wood. You may be wondering if Epdm Roofing can be installed asphalt, shingles, or asphalt roofing and the answer is no because the oils in petroleum based products will cause the epdm to swell and not work. When you decide to do this type of work it is highly recommended that you use gloves and eye protection.
